Our client had very traditional furniture, including a beautiful antique four-poster bed as well as a lovely Oriental rug. Our task was to use the colors that she loved from the rug and make the master bedroom into a romantic retreat. The first fabric we found was this beautiful embroidered silk. When we showed it to our client, she pulled out a magazine picture that she had clipped with the exact same fabric! Clearly, she loved it and wanted to use it for window treatments and bed hangings, but it was very expensive. To make it work and stay within her budget, we found a much more reasonably priced solid shirred fabric in a beautiful color to pull out one of her favorite shades in the silk. Using the wonderful silk sparingly, we were able to create the bed hangings, dust ruffle and window treatments in a much more economical way, while still achieving the desired rich look. We added finishing touches with pillows and by re-upholstering a bench and vanity chair with several other beautiful fabrics and trims. Swing arm wall lamps attached to the tone-on-tone striped walls, plus a mini-chandelier above the client’s desk, complete this master retreat.
